Day 2: Tbilisi City Tour
After breakfast in the hotel we will start our tour by visiting old Tbilisi, to visit 13th century Metekhi church, with the equestrian statue of the city’s royal founder standing above the steep cliffs of the Mtkvari River. The church has been destroyed many times by the enemy. Afterwards enjoy the opportunity to travel by cable car and reach the great monument of the Mother of Georgia. Then descend from the mountain, through the narrow streets to the Narikala Fortress, from there you can enjoy amazing view of Tbilisi. Then we will walk to the Tbilisi Mosque which was built in XVI century. Continue to 7th century Sioni Cathedral, it is considered one of the most sacred places in the country, since it houses the holy cross of St Nino, the young woman who converted Georgia to Christianity in the early 4th century; Sioni was the only active church during Soviet Occupation. We visit 6th century Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest church in the town. After that we will go to a restaurant for lunch. After Lunch we will continue our tour to the Liberty Square and famous Rustaveli street, on our way we will see the Rustaveli’s theatre, old opera, parliament and then we will visit the Georgian national museum “Simon Janashia”, which displays the country’s principal archaeological findings, then we will go to a restaurant to have dinner, after we will go to the hotel.
